Mission Statement and Backstory
August 9, 2007
This was the text of our original email:
This is a blatant plea for site submissions, for a brand new sex blog directory (and of course, we use the term “sex blog” in coolly ironic tones, acknowledging the huge range of types of writing and content included in that broad and overarching term).
Born out of a desire to have a source for “quality” erotic blogs that truly lives up to its name, “Eye of Venus” was created as a repository of intelligent, entertaining, literate and photographic blogs dealing with the myriad facets of sex. Blogs submitted will be selected by merit, using our own rigorous and possibly quirky criteria. Our aim is to provide a service that highlights the best of erotic writing and visuals on the web, and to keep our standards consistently high.
Here is where we are forced to admit to a certain level of intellectual snobbery. This directory was created by sex bloggers, for sex bloggers tired of finding their work lost in a morass of “sex blogs” featuring badly-lit tits, asses and money shots (charming though they are, in their own way). We intend to keep this directory selective, and are approaching you as we feel you represent the quality we are looking for. We would very much appreciate your support in our quest to promote world domination of the superior sex blog.
As we are just getting started, what we propose is this: if you graciously agree/are pantingly eager to be included, then please reply to this email and we’ll put your link up, with your permission, as soon as we have the requisite number to links, and let you know as soon as we have done so.
This was the text of the follow up to the “yes” people:
Thank you so much for agreeing to be linked to Eye of Venus. It has taken a little longer than we initially anticipated to get up and running, due to the technical difficulty that is life, and we apologize for the delay. If we have included you as a “yes”, and linked to you, when you were really a “maybe”, or even a “wtf? no way!” then please let us know, and we’ll take your link down immediately (any mistakes are due to the technical difficulty known as incompetence on the part of the Compiler of Lists). If you were a “yes” and have changed your mind, let us know and we’ll take your link down as well.
The story behind this site is quite simple. We wanted another source of quality blogs and sites to add to the few specialised sites highlighting great writing and pics in existence, and we hope it will benefit all of you in bringing in traffic. There are no nefarious plans to capitalize on anyone’s good name, or exploit our members in any way. In fact, we have a rather rose-tinted view of the whole thing being a happy haven for purveyors of erotica. We plan on having an RSS feed on the front page, and will try to keep the news section updated with any future plans and suggestions – one of the original ideas was to include a forum for members. There will be advertising, in order to keep the site afloat, but only in the best possible taste, of course.
At the moment we only have two general categories: Literate and Visual, because the amount of decision-making entailed so far has been making our tiny heads explode as it is. Any suggestions for subcategories, and indeed any suggestions at all, will be gratefully received and possibly implemented at our whim. We are not asking for links back, but obviously they would be very much appreciated – and we even have a groovy button for those who prefer them to text links.
Thank you so much, again, and a particularly grateful thank you to all those who have offered support and assistance – you have no idea how much it is appreciated. We’re very excited about this project, and we hope it serves you well.
If you didn’t get one of these, and think you should have been included, there are a number of reasons:
1) We couldn’t find a contact address on your blog
2) You should check your spam folder
3) You were on the list when exhaustion and blog-overload hit.
4) We don’t think you’re that great
5) You are great, but we just haven’t come across you yet, and for that we apologize
If you think we should have contacted you, then please submit your site.
